Madison Kay turned 4 today!! I can’t believe it! She said to me “Mom I am so happy I am pink!” (translation- she is tickled pink! Aaron told her that yesterday!) We made and iced cupcakes, we are making Homemade Mac and Cheese with Birthday Present shaped pasta… she gets to open her presents when Daddy gets home, and her soon to be Aunt Kaitlyn called and asked her to be the flower girl in her and Uncle Micah’s Wedding!! Such a good birthday present! She asked me if she could wear “Heel-High’s” (translation: high-heels) to the wedding!

Silly girl… December 6, 2009
So, I have come to the conclusion that Madi must not pay very good attention in Sunday School… At first I just thought it was maybe she heard something wrong, but now I’m convinced…
A few months ago after church, my dad asked Madi what she learned in Sunday School and she replied, Noah shot all the animals in the ark… Hilarious, yes!! I made sure the teacher didn’t really tell her that…
Well, I was asking her tonight over supper what she learned this morning, and she said, Mary and Baby Jesus… So I started asking her specifics, trying to get her to remember what was taught, and add a few things here and there… She mentioned the Angel. So I said, well what did the angel do? She says, Oh, the Angel sucked out Baby Jesus’ nose. What? Where does she come up with this stuff? That’s not all however, she next mentioned the star that showed where Baby Jesus was born, but she said it was really a spaceship. Oh my… My husband asked if the teacher told her this, and I said No, why would anyone say that, she is just making it up!! But how she comes up with this silly stuff is beyond me!
She just has a very creative and silly mind!!
Just Like Her Mother September 27, 2009
My daughter is so much like me it is not even funny! Recently, my sister and her husband took my daughter shopping, and asked her if she would like a toy or clothes, she wanted clothes. Weird, a 3 year old wants clothes?? They asked her a couple more times just to make sure that was really what she wanted, and sure enough, she did!! She picked out a purple shirt. My brother in law said, “She is so much like her mother!!”
Today, I took her to Target to pick up a couple of things that we needed, and we went browsing in the shoe aisle… She wanted to try on shoes and we ended up getting her some shoes for winter, but she was so sad when I told her we could not get any boots. She said “Mama I would really like it if you would buy me some boots…” HAA!! I told her not today, but that I would get her some for her birthday… She was sad a little while, until we got to go window shop in the toy aisle… Then on the way out she reminded me that she wants boots for her birthday! That kid has a memory like nothing else… but that is the way I was when I was little too!! Just a chip off the ol’ block…
Storm Comforts September 26, 2009
My daughter is afraid of storms, so much so that when it rains, she starts to get scared. We have tried everything- turning the fan on to mask the sound of the rain, telling her stories about God bowling when it thunders, having her try hiding under the covers, but she still gets scared. Sometimes when the thunder is really loud, she comes to our room hysterical! She ends up getting to sleep in bed with us until it is over, and we make her go back to her own room. I don’t get any sleep (she kicks) when this happens so I have been trying to think of a way to get her to stay in her own bed. She loves to have stories told to her, so… I told my her a story about how when I was little and it was thunder storming, that I had to go and sleep with my little brother so he wouldn’t be scared.
So this morning, my husband goes into our son’s room to put his pacifier in his mouth as he was fussing and it wasn’t time for him to eat yet. And he finds our daughter lying on the floor with a small blanket and her bed buddy (the toy she sleeps with) right next to his crib. She sits up when he opens the door, and says “Hi Dada, Nathan was scared of the rain, so I am sleeping in here so he won’t be scared!” Trying not to laugh, he tells her that the rain has stopped and she can go back to her bed. She hops up and goes back to her bed. When he tells me this, I am like “WHAT??”
But then I realize that this might be the answer to the issue. She goes into her little brother’s room to “comfort him” and doesn’t come up to our room. I am ok with that!!
Exercise… Ugh!! September 15, 2009
So, my husband and I recently bought an elliptical exercise machine. For the first 4 weeks, I was great- I worked out for 30 minutes 6 times a week. I didn’t lose even a smidge of a pound, but it made me more awake in the morning, feel better about myself, and gave me more energy. But, since I went back to school and work, I have totally quit. Now I just feel guilty that I am not using it, such a dilemma!!
The Many Joys and Woes of Motherhood September 14, 2009
I have 2 beautiful children. My oldest child is a 3-year-old (going on 14) girl and my youngest is a 4-month-old boy. It has been somewhat difficult for me to transition to having a daughter and doing all the girly-girl things with her, to having a son.
One thing I have been especially bothered by, is the vicious cycle of the “Momma’s Boy.” As a wife, and I mean this with absolutely no disrespect to my husband, I would prefer that he not be a Momma’s boy. It’s just the way a wife wants her husband to be- focused on you as the love of his life and the mother of his children. But when you actually have a son, you honestly and truly want him to be a Momma’s boy. This disturbs me, how can I want both? It makes me be a little less persistent with my husband about the matter. I can now relate to the love of a mother for her son, and all that comes with the dynamics of that relationship. This obviously does not negate or compare with the fact that I love my daughter. But mother-daughter relationships are expected; even father-daughter relationships do not have the “bad-rap” like the mother-son relationship does.
Another thing, totally off from the subject above, is pee. Yes, you read that right… I said pee!! This kid pees out of every diaper that I put on him. I am so excited I almost do the happy dance when he actually stays dry (which in some ways is good it’s not very often since I am not a good dancer
). I am talking changing clothes, wiping him down, changing his bed sheets… every time he takes a nap, and especially at night! I have tried going up a size in the diapers- he pees out of it. I have tried changing brands of diapers- he pees out of it. I have tried going to an overnight diaper for all the time- still pees out of it. I am resigned to the fact that this child will have his clothes changed at least 6 times a day, and I will be doing laundry on a very regular basis just to keep him clothed.
Onto my daughter- she is a very talkative and smart little girl. She has a memory like you would not believe!! Her most recent thing to do is ask a ton of questions (and if you know me, you know that the apple has not fallen far from the tree!!). She asks things like “Momma, what does melt mean?” This is one of the easier ones to answer, but even so- try to explain what melt means to a 3-year-old in terms she can understand; it’s very challenging. She has also recently been taking FOREVER to eat- an hour to an hour and a half sometimes. Which is totally ridiculous! We have had to start giving her a time limit, and when that time is up and she is not finished, she gets the food taken away and does not get any snacks until the next meal. I have not determined whether this is working or not yet. She goes back and forth; eating quickly one time, and not finishing before the timer goes off another time.
This is what is going on in our house lately. More to come soon, I am sure…
